100-meter Olympic champion Noah Lyles has set a world record in the rarely run 150 meters.
The 28-year-old American sprinted to victory in the meeting in Ostrava, Czech Republic, in 14.67 seconds. The time was presented as a world record. However, the World Athletics Federation does not hold an official world record for this distance.
In April, Jamaican Kishane Thompson ran the previous world best time of 14.92 seconds on a half-turn track. Even faster times were achieved over the 150 meters on a completely straight course. Jamaica’s superstar Usain Bolt completed the distance in 14.35 seconds in Manchester in 2009.
In Ostrava, Australia’s great sprint talent Gout Gout came third in 14.96 seconds. The German 200 meter record holder Joshua Hartmann came sixth in 15.20 seconds.
