The former Slovenian ski jumper Robert Kranjec is only recovering very slowly from the serious bicycle accident he suffered at the end of April. According to a media report, it is still unclear whether the 44-year-old will ever be able to walk normally again.
The rehab of former world-class ski jumper Robert Kranjec is apparently going more slowly than initially hoped. This is reported by the Slovenian sports newspaper “Ekipa”.
Kranjec has been in one of the world’s leading rehabilitation centers in the Slovenian capital Ljubljana for around a month now. He completes a strictly monitored program there from Monday to Friday. The 2012 ski flying world champion is only allowed to go home on the weekends.
According to “Ekipa”, Kranjec is currently still dependent on a wheelchair. It is said that he is making progress “very slowly”. It is expected that the 44-year-old will not be able to work at home permanently until autumn at the earliest. But only if he continues to make progress in rehab.
Will Kranjec remain dependent on a wheelchair forever?
As of now, writes “Ekipa”, it cannot yet be said with certainty that the former ski jumper will recover 100 percent. He and his doctors would at least hope that he would be able to walk normally again at some point.
Kranjec had a serious accident on a bike ride at the end of April. The Slovenian lost control of his bike and fell onto a curb. He broke several bones, including his spine. Although he could feel his legs immediately after the accident, his feet were numb. This has not improved significantly even after several operations.
As bad as the Slovenian was in the accident, he also shared some of the responsibility. Authorities said after the incident that Kranjec was riding his bike while heavily intoxicated. The measurement gave him a blood alcohol level of 2.5.
