The municipality of Aa en Hunze will close the year 2025 with a positive financial result of 2.3 million euros. This is evident from the annual accounts that the council has presented to the municipal council, the municipality reports in a press release.
Finance councilor Sonja Hilgenga (CDA) is vigilant despite the positive result. “The municipality’s financial position has remained solid in 2025, but we are faced with a declining financial perspective. A reversal process has already been initiated in the run-up to the 2027 budget.”
Traditionally, the budget has some windfalls and setbacks. The municipality received more income from, for example, tourist tax and a higher general benefit, but the costs of the Social Domain and the Participation Act increased.
The investments within the social domain focus on prevention, accessible support for residents and good cooperation. The municipality of Aa en Hunze was not alone in this, as can be read in the press release. “We have worked on the sustainability challenge together with residents, companies and organizations and have started with the Nij Begun insulation subsidy.”
The municipality has also not been sitting idle in the recreational field. “New initiatives have been stimulated, which has led to new cycling hubs, Escape tours and packages.”
