In the second match of the Turkish Insurance Basketball Super League play-off final series, Fenerbahçe Beko defeated Beşiktaş GAİN 93-68 on its field and brought the series to 1-1.
Beşiktaş GAİN started the derby effectively and gained an 8-2 lead in the 4th minute. Fenerbahçe Beko, who hardened its defense and recovered with Horton-Tucker’s points, took the lead in the 5th minute with Melli’s outside shot: 9-8. The yellow-dark blue team made good use of the painted area and scored consecutive baskets against the black-whites, who were trying to score from behind the three-point line, and finished the first period ahead 23-18.
Fenerbahçe started the second quarter enthusiastically and increased the difference to double digits in the 12th minute with the points scored by Tarık Biberovic and Melli: 30-20. The yellow-dark blue team continued to make high-percentage shots in the offense in the remaining part of the period and increased the difference to 14, entering the locker room with a 50-37 advantage.
Fenerbahçe Beko took full control in the third quarter, increased the difference to 21 points and finished the period ahead 72-51.
The yellow-dark blue team, which widened the gap by playing comfortably in the fourth and last period, won the derby 93-68 and brought the series to 1-1.
The third match of the final series, in which the team that achieves three wins will become the champion, will be played on Wednesday, June 17, at Sinan Erdem Sports Hall, hosted by Beşiktaş.
JASIKEVICIUS WAS EXPORTED
Fenerbahçe Beko Head Coach Sarunas Jasikevicius was expelled in the first period.
The Lithuanian coach received his first technical foul in the 4th minute due to his objections to the referee.
Jasikevicius was disqualified after receiving a second technical foul after a conversation with the first referee of the match, Emin Moğulkoç, in the 9th minute.
JONAH MATHEWS COULD NOT CONTINUE THE MATCH
Beşiktaş’s American player Jonah Mathews suffered an injury in the second quarter.
Mathews came to the field in the 17th minute of the match. The 28-year-old basketball player, who injured his Achilles tendon, could not continue the match and was taken to the hospital with suspicion of “rupture”.
Fenerbahçe President Aziz Yıldırım and Beşiktaş President Serdal Adalı watched the derby side by side.
