Turks are fishing for Dutch Nieuwe en masse: ‘You stole our tulips, we are now taking your herring’

“Five hundred years ago you stole the tulips from us; maybe in five hundred years everyone will think that fresh herring comes from Turkey,” said Abdullah Tagi with a wink. Tagi is one of the largest fish traders in the Netherlands and provided the Dutch Nieuwe at the second edition of the Turkish-Dutch Herring Party.
