As part of the World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026, Wertheim Village has been the stage for a large-scale installation by the French artist Cyril Lancelin since June 1, 2026. His work Mille Miroirs can be experienced throughout the Village until the end of August and transforms the public space into a walkable, living experience of reflection, movement and encounter.

Wertheim Village is located in Franconia, along the Romantic Road, embedded in one of the characteristic wine landscapes of southern Germany – and only around 45 minutes from Frankfurt am Main. As an open-air destination, it combines architecture, landscape and contemporary lifestyle. The Village is part of The Bicester Collection, which is represented internationally with locations in Europe, China and the USA and sees art as an integral part of its Villages.

“Mille Miroirs” – space as experience

With Mille Miroirs, space unfolds as an active experience. The installation was previously shown in La Vallée Village near Paris and in Fidenza Village near Milan and has now reached its third stop in Wertheim.

The title refers to mirrors – the work actually unfolds as a multi-layered structure of gold and silver balls, reflective surfaces and modular elements. Passageways, gates and zones with seating are created. Visitors move through, change perspectives and experience the space again and again.

“To walk through Mille Miroirs is to enter a reflective, dreamlike landscape of light, shadow and movement,” says Cyril Lancelin.

The installation reacts to movement: with every step, the line of sight, light and spatial impressions change. Art is not viewed here, but rather walked through – as an open system that only fully unfolds in interaction with people.

“I wanted to cultivate a sense of wonder and show how art can connect disciplines, cultures and people,” says Lancelin.

Design as part of everyday life

This accessibility is at the heart of the World Design Capital. Under the motto “Design for Democracy – Atmospheres for a better life” she sees design as part of everyday life: open, low-threshold and accessible to everyone.

Mille Miroirs is freely accessible and invites you to engage with it without prior knowledge. Shared spaces of experience are created – places to linger, meet and gain new perceptions.

From public space to everyday urban life

Parallel to the presentation in Wertheim Village, part of the Mille Miroirs installation will be shown in the lobby and on the roof terrace of the lazuli bar & kitchen at Kimpton Main Frankfurt from the beginning of June until the end of August 2026.
