According to media reports, Sami Khedira is about to return to Real Madrid. Accordingly, the new head coach José Mourinho (63) wants to bring his former protégé into his team as an assistant coach, as “The Athletic” and the Spanish newspaper “AS” initially report. There have already been discussions between the two sides. The 39-year-old 2014 world champion is thinking about the offer. Khedira has not yet commented publicly on this. In the morning, Fabrizio Romano followed up with the information that Khedira’s engagement as Mourinho’s assistant had been sealed and an agreement had been reached.

For Khedira, who has been working as a TV expert for a long time, among other things, it would be the first coaching job. According to “AS”, Mourinho wants a former Real professional on his coaching staff. The Portuguese brought Khedira to Los Blancos in 2010, where Khedira played until 2015. Khedira is his preferred candidate. The former midfielder fits exactly the profile we are looking for. Under Mourinho, the 77-time German international won the Spanish championship, the cup and the Supercup. Mourinho left Madrid for Chelsea in 2013.

Previously, another former Mourinho protégé, former central defender Pepe (43), had been brought into play. The Portuguese described these rumors as “speculation on social media”. He did not speak to Mourinho about a coaching position. He doesn’t rule out a return to Real in the future, but that’s not an issue at the moment.
