Reese switches
Big hit before the end: Wolfsburg strikes at Hertha
June 15, 2026 – 2:09 p.mReading time: 2 minutes

Hertha BSC has already lost an important player in Kennet Eichhorn. The captain, Fabian Reese, is probably also leaving the ship.
The upheaval at second division giant Hertha BSC continues. Captain Fabian Reese is about to move to VfL Wolfsburg. The Bundesliga relegated team is probably digging deep into its pockets for this.
As the TV broadcaster Sky reports, Wolfsburg will pay eight to nine million euros, the “kicker” speaks of eight million euros. This puts Reese among the most expensive second division purchases in German football history. The winger has already agreed on a contract with Wolfsburg.
The Kiel native, who moved from Holstein Kiel to the Spree on a free transfer in 2023, is still pending a medical check. Reese, who wanted to move into the Bundesliga with Hertha, extended his contract with the Berliners until 2030 last summer. Now the Berlin top scorer, who has already played 13 games with Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga, probably sees better chances of returning to the upper house with Wolfsburg.
The transfer plus would be achieved
Since Reese had always publicly expressed his love for the club and the city, the move could cause resentment among Hertha supporters. As is well known, VfL Wolfsburg is not particularly popular due to its proximity to VW.
For Hertha, Reese’s departure would be a bitter loss on the one hand, but a financial blessing on the other. According to the “Kicker”, the Berliners have to generate a transfer plus of around 15 million euros. With the sale of Kennet Eichhorn (nine million euros) to Leverkusen and the approaching Reese move, this transfer plus would be achieved and the Berliners could become active on the transfer market themselves. The second division team has not yet signed a new signing.
