Germany wins convincingly 7-1 against Curaçao at the start of the World Cup. After the game, Johannes B. Kerner commented on the game – and immediately received opposition from the 2014 world champion.

It was the expected clear victory for the German national team. In the end it was 7:1 at the start of the World Cup against football dwarf Curaçao, the DFB team played themselves into a frenzy at times. But: At times the World Cup newcomer surprised the team, even briefly duping national coach Julian Nagelsmann’s team with the equalizer to make it 1-1. Despite the high result, the kickers from the Caribbean island showed that they can play football too.

  • High victory: Germany with a dream start to the World Cup
  • “Stupid”: Suddenly Klopp apologizes to Nagelsmann

The DFB team has made a successful start to the tournament in the USA, Canada and Mexico – and that can be very important for the further course of the World Cup. After the game, experts Thomas Müller and Jürgen Klopp spoke to presenter Johannes B. Kerner about the game on Magenta TV. And Kerner used a word that made the 2014 world champion pause.

The following dialogue developed:

Kerner: “It feels like a preparation game, but under maximum pressure.”

Kerner: “Well, I mean…”

Klopp (intervenes): “Quiet, calm, calm.” (laughs)

Müller: “We don’t always have to agree, but it didn’t feel like a preparatory game.”

Kerner: “You know what I mean.”

Müller: “No, not at all.”

Kerner: “Okay, I’ll explain: A game where the obligation to win is quite high. And under the maximum pressure of a first World Cup game. That’s what I meant.”

Kerner (laughs): “Houston, we only had a problem for a very short time.”

Müller and Klopp are both working as experts for Magenta TV during the World Cup, as are former national player Mats Hummels and current Bundesliga player Robert Andrich. Kerner and Laura Wontorra moderate the broadcasts.
