By beating Portugal 21-14 in the semi-final in Kosice (Slovakia) which was worth qualification, Italy 3×3 obtained qualification for the Europe Cup on 11-13 September in Antwerp. In the two decisive matches, the contribution made in attack by Amedeo Della Valle and David Cournooh, former teammates in Brescia, was fundamental: they accounted for 17 of the 21 points that allowed us to get the ticket to the continental competition, but the contribution offered by Tio and Donadoni was also very important. In the quarterfinals, coach Claudio Negri’s boys had beaten Croatia 21-16, after the 18-21 defeat in their debut match on Saturday.

However, the Italians’ race for the European Championship was interrupted at the last stage: the defeat at the end of the match against Hungary (7-11) was fatal, which therefore earned their ticket to Antwerp together with Slovenia. By beating Croatia 14-9 in the last match of the first phase, the Italian women’s team had finished their group in second place behind Portugal, who had defeated us in the first match of the day (18-17).
