Pauli “Pate” Mustajärvi’s daughter Jenni Mustajärvi, 40, says Morning paper in an interview openly about his grief after his father’s death.

Even though the family knew the musician was seriously ill, Jenni didn’t want to hear predictions in advance. The finality of the situation dawned on him only when the doctor told him that the coming Christmas would be his father’s last.

The news of the rock legend’s death spread to the entire nation on Boxing Day. Jenni says that she was surprised by how strongly the news touched Finns.

– Pauli survived quite a lot of things. That’s why many people probably had the idea that he would survive this too. In recent times, the father himself closed down. He didn’t even have time to process the fact that it was really going.

Pate Mustajärvi’s alcohol consumption and gig fitness made headlines a few years before his death. Jenni says that she has been constantly worried about her father for years, which is why feelings of relief have now come alongside the sadness.

– Being worried has been a big part of my role. It has always gone along with dad. Concerns have arisen because of his lifestyle and prejudices. Anyone close to an alcoholic knows that. But now that worry no longer exists, he describes.

Pate Mustajärvi died on Boxing Day at the age of 69. He said in October that he had been diagnosed with a tumor. At the same time, he said that he would cancel all his future gigs.

– The treatments to tame it will start immediately, but since recovery requires time and peace, I unfortunately have to cancel all the gigs announced so far. At the same time, these social media channels of mine will be silent for the time being, Mustajärvi wrote.

In November, he said that it was cancer.

– Cancer’s devil threw a little curveball at the concert plans, but while on sick leave, there is plenty of time to write.

In memory of Pate Mustajärvi, a concert will be organized at the Nokia Arena on July 12. Mustajärvi would have turned 70 on the same day.
