TV chef Rudolph van Veen from Tilburg went viral with a very special morning routine. In a video that is widely viewed on Instagram and TikTok, he says that he has been eating one M&M every morning for forty years. And there is a special reason behind that: “Let that be my vitamin pill for the rest of my life.”

Van Veen participated in the podcast ‘French fries’ war’, which focuses on food culture. The conversation was about taking pills against lactose intolerance, and Van Veen indicated that he had already taken his pill that morning. Only for him it was not a pill against lactose intolerance, but an M&M.

“I eat an M&M every morning before brushing my teeth. I have been doing that for forty years,” says the chef.

Mentality & motivation
It started out of some sort of habit. “I opened a bag that I found in the kitchen. Then I turned that thing through my fingers and then I noticed that M, that white M.” He immediately felt a meaning in that. “I thought: damn, mentality and motivation. Let that be my vitamin pill for the rest of my life.”

Every morning before he goes out the door, no matter what he has to do that day, that M&M reminds him of those two important values in his life: mentality and motivation. “That’s my kind of vitamin boost,” he says. “I also don’t think the M&Ms know that at all, but I have been a user for forty years,” the TV chef laughs.

In the podcast ‘Van Ons’, Omroep Brabant searches for ‘the feeling of here’ together with ten well-known Brabant residents. Rudolph van Veen was also a guest here, listen to the podcast below.
