“I could never have imagined this,” Jan responds enthusiastically. He ran 20 kilometers on Saturday morning during the last stage of De 4 van Alkmaar.
In April and May he completed the Pieterpad without interruption. He covered 557 kilometers in 26 days. “I walked 20 kilometers or more every day, with an exception of 39 kilometers in one day.”
‘He is in my heart’
He did this, among other things, to raise money for the charity, MS Research. “My friend Atze died of MS at the age of 44. We named our eldest son after him and thanks to him I met my wife. He is forever in my heart.”
Next Tuesday he will hand over the check to the organization, so he was able to draw attention to his charity during De 4 van Alkmaar. He handed out forms while walking so that people could donate. Yesterday the counter stood at 3,400 euros. “I also set the bar high,” laughs Jan.
Supplemented to 5,000 euros
On Saturday he was surprised with the announcement that Relive, a sponsor of the major walking event, will supplement the amount up to its target amount of 5,000 euros. “I am very happy and never expected this. I have already been in contact with Atze’s children and they love it too.”
