The third stage of the 4 of Alkmaar had a religious touch today. The walkers walked from church to church. They started in the Grote Kerk in Alkmaar, after which the walkers passed, among other things, the Abbey of Egmond and the pilgrimage site of Our Lady of Nood in Heiloo.

The day started wet for the early starters. Later, perhaps with a little help from above, it became dry and the always good-tempered hikers could enjoy the sun. At Egmond Abbey, the New Voice choir was ready to sing to the walkers. “Extremely fun, it boosts your spirits. It gives you new energy,” said one of the walkers.

A little further on, the walkers, who walk 40 kilometers every day, visited the Dampegheest brewery in Limmen. There they were treated to a beer and it was well received. “It is dangerous,” says a hiker. “Fortunately, one is possible and we still have 15 kilometers to go, so that will be fine.”

Light a candle

At Our Lady of Need in Heiloo, a place of pilgrimage since the Middle Ages, a visit to the Chapel of Grace was not to be missed. Walkers lit a candle for their loved ones who no longer walk because they are no longer there or are ill. “We lit a candle for a friend who always encouraged us. Every time we are here we think of her. She walks with us in spirit.”

In addition, the walkers of the 4 of Alkmaar received on Friday moral support from the radio makers of NH. The studio was transferred to Alkmaar for the occasion. Karin Bloemen, born in Alkmaar, also stopped by and reporter Jelmer walked 25 kilometers with her. “I’m the odd one out, because I walk in my sneakers. Fortunately, I’m doing very well and I don’t have any blisters yet.”

The Vier van Alkmaar near NH

During the first three days, NH made an atmospheric compilation of approximately four minutes for television and the website. There’s even a 12-minute compilation of the grand final on Saturday. It will be broadcast on TV just after 5 p.m. The walkers will then receive a grand welcome at Waagplein.
