Reinforcement between the posts for FC Bayern: The reigning German champions have signed Dutch national goalkeeper Regina van Eijk.

On Thursday, Bayern announced that the 24-year-old had been released from Ajax Amsterdam and would receive a contract until 2029. Van Eijk replaces Maria Luisa Grohs, who will leave the Munich team after seven years.

The goalkeeper, who has risen to number one at Ajax in recent years and was called up for the Dutch national team for the first time in 2025, is “a goalkeeper who, despite her young age, already has a lot of experience and has taken on responsibility in important games,” praised Bayern director Bianca Rech.

Van Eijk “appears very confident and self-confident on the pitch” and “exudes great calm”. With her “positive, open and bright nature” she complements the goalkeeping team “optimally”.

FC Bayern is one of the “biggest clubs in the world”

The German champions’ new hopeful also had her say in detail in the transfer announcement.

“I’m very happy to have signed with FC Bayern. This club is one of the biggest clubs in the world, and everyone I spoke to about the club only spoke positively about FC Bayern,” reported van Eijk.

The 24-year-old added: “Great footballers from my home country have played here in the past, which has also strengthened my desire to move here myself one day.”

According to the Dutchwoman, she is a “proactive” and “participating” goalkeeper: “I want to open the game from the back, act courageously and give my team stability. At the same time, it is important to me to always get the best out of the team and thus contribute to their mutual success.”

Meanwhile, Van Eijk is not expected to be Bayern’s last reinforcement for the new season; fresh talent is still being sought in several positions.
