Caroline Tensen receives a very ugly sneer from Gudo Tienhooven, media journalist from AD. He describes the presenter of One Against 100 as ‘a boring doormat’. Oh dear…
One against 100 has been the same program for years: Caroline Tensen, a hundred opponents, strict quiz questions. No frills, no fuss. This season, RTL decided to change that by adding Buddy Vedder as a sidekick, with the task of refreshing the format through experiments, craziness and at one point even a rap moment.
Curious
The result was what it was: cringeworthy television that scared viewers and did Buddy’s career a disservice. Tina Nijkamp called it downright harmful for him. Victor Vlam suggested that Buddy may be looking to take over her position. And Caroline herself was supposedly enthusiastic about it, because what else could you do?
There is now also a critic who thinks the addition of Buddy is a success: AD media editor Marcus den Blanken. “I actually like that there is a bit of an interruption, because One against 100 is a program in which quiz questions are asked and which has always been interrupted by lengthy items for charities.”
Bowl of chips
Those charity things were really boring, says Marcus in the AD Media Podcast. “For me, those items have always been moments when I wanted to do something different and when I went to get a new bowl of chips or pour another Coke. That was boring. And Buddy makes something of it. He is an entertainer and he does something fun, so I don’t really understand the criticism.”
He continues: “I actually like Caroline Tensen and Buddy together. I think it’s a duo that I never thought about coming together, but I think this actually works quite well, so I’m enthusiastic about it.”
Very smart
Colleague Angela de Jong is not very negative about it either. “It’s very smart of RTL, because otherwise we would never have talked about the 385th season of Een tegen 100, but now we do because of Buddy.”
Marcus: “It’s been around for so long and it could use a little renewal and a little different. Buddy can do this really well. He’s the annoying little guy who is a bit smart-alecky, but he does it in a very nice way.”
Boring doormat
AD media journalist Gudo Tienhooven also thinks the addition of Buddy is fine. “I also find him disarming.”
Angela: “And he still had to get some programs, right? Because he loses everything.”
Gudo concludes: “And you have to put something in front of that boring doormat Caroline Tensen, right? In a program like that…”
