The Lycra Company, together with the denim manufacturer Naveena and the fashion brand Only & Sons, has introduced a new denim quality with renewable Lycra fiber. The fiber consists of 70 percent renewable raw materials and is intended to reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 45 percent compared to conventional Lycra fibers. Using state-of-the-art fermentation technology, a raw material obtained from industrial corn is converted into an important fiber component that replaces fossil raw materials.

The project includes a single-core denim fabric made of cotton with renewable Lycra fibers, which was developed in the “Sila Black/Black” fabric version. The fiber is used in a stretch denim fabric for slim-fit models. According to the companies, the material offers the same stretch and rebound properties as conventional Lycra fibers. The collaboration aims to show how renewable raw materials can be integrated into modern denim products without compromising on fit, comfort and functionality.

The renewable Lycra fiber is certified to standards such as ISCC+ and USDA BioPreferred and has been evaluated through an independent life cycle analysis. “For Only & Sons, this collaboration shows that responsible material selection can go hand in hand with comfort, fit and functionality,” says Kenneth Bennetzen, Strategic Sourcing Manager, Only & Sons Denim. “It is particularly important to us that the information about the materials is supported by recognized certifications from independent third parties and verified assessments.”
