It was about six months ago that Dino Toppmöller was released from Eintracht Frankfurt. Now the former FC Bayern assistant coach has found a new job.
As the portal “fussballtransfers.com” reports, the trainer will take over the French first division club RC Lens next season. According to reports, the 45-year-old has signed a two-year contract with the Ligue 1 club.
Lens was recently looking for a successor to Pierre Sage, who is moving to Crystal Palace, where he will succeed Oliver Glasner. According to recent media reports, the Austrian, Toppmüller’s predecessor as coach at Eintracht Frankfurt, is going to Milan, where he will take over AC Milan.
Explosive: Both Crystal Palace and the Milanese are said to have also dealt with Dino Toppmöller. A club from Saudi Arabia is also said to have put out feelers.
With Lens, the 45-year-old Toppmüller is now taking over the current number two position in France. Lens won the cup last season and ranked directly behind champions PSG in the league.
Career start under Nagelsmann
Toppmüller made his breakthrough as a football coach in 2020 when current national coach Julian Nagelsmann brought him to RB Leipzig and from then on built him up as an important part of his team. A year later they went to FC Bayern together, where the team was released in 2023.
Even before Julian Nagelsmann took over at the DFB, Toppmöller himself had his first lucrative job under his belt – as head coach of Eintracht Frankfurt. While the team under Toppmöller only languished in midfield in its first season, the coach led the team into unfamiliar territory in its second season.
Under the young coach they reached third place and qualified for the Champions League via the Bundesliga for the first time. However, the wave of success did not last long, as the separation took place in January 2026. Toppmöller was replaced by Albert Riera, who is also no longer in office.
