Yan Couto will apparently play for Italian club Como 1907 next season. As transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano reports, the 24-year-old Brazilian is moving to the north of Italy on loan from Borussia Dortmund. Accordingly, Como will pay Couto’s entire annual salary, which according to “Sports Illustrated” is 1.17 million euros.
Couto moved to Borussia Dortmund from Manchester City on loan in the summer of 2024 after a strong season at FC Girona. After just a few appearances, the purchase obligation of 20 million euros for the full-back came into effect, but he has not yet been able to meet the high expectations associated with it. In 62 games he scored three goals and prepared four more. Last season he was in the shadow of Julian Ryerson and was allowed to start 17 times in 27 appearances. He has only been on the pitch for 41 minutes since March. Since the move, his market value has fallen from 25 million to 17 million euros.
Como has developed into a top club in Italy under coach Cesc Fàbregas and qualified for the Champions League for the first time with fourth place. The club, which has its stadium in a picturesque setting on Lake Como, returned to Serie A just two years ago. However, Como is not a normal newcomer, as 228 million euros have been invested in new signings since then. On the right side of defense, Couto would compete with former Bundesliga professionals Ivan Smolcic and Ignace Van der Brempt as well as Mërgim Vojvoda at Como.
