Brabant road users have once again provided a significant boost to the state treasury in the period January-April. In total, more than 200,000 traffic fines were issued. The largest share came from drivers who sped too fast past fixed speed cameras.

Brabant is therefore one of the bitter crème de la crème of traffic offenders. Only in North and South Holland were more fines issued for fixed speed cameras.

Most violations took place on the N270 in Helmond. At the intersection with the Neervoortsedreef towards Nuenen, a speed camera caused the cash register to ring: almost 6,297 speed demons drove faster than allowed and 41 people drove through a red light.

Other speed cameras in the province were also lucrative. More than 4,215 drivers made the mistake at the intersection of the Backer and Ruebweg with the Veldsteen in Breda. 3,444 fines were issued on John F. Kennedylaan near the Venbergsemolen and the speed camera on Europaweg with Neervoortsedreef in Helmond resulted in 4,181 fines.

Phone in hand
In addition, many drivers were caught with their phones in their hands. So-called focus flash units resulted in 16,664 fines. Sometimes things go wrong: a young woman from Den Bosch was previously flashed with an ice pack in her hand, because the speed camera thought she saw a telephone, while she had recently had her wisdom tooth extracted.

People most often drove while texting, calling or swiping on the N329 in Oss: 3,044 drivers made a mistake there. In Hilvarenbeek, 2,527 motorists were caught on the N269 and 1,726 in Bergen op Zoom on the N286 near Steenspil. Such a violation is deeply damaging: having a phone behind the wheel is expensive it 440 euros.

Trajectory control
Mobile checks were also lucrative. With measuring equipment and radar guns, 19,174 people were fined in East Brabant. In the Zeeland-West-Brabant unit the counter remained even higher: 35,746 fines. The figures for Zeeland and West Brabant are not included separately.

There is only one section control in the province: on the N639 between Chaam and Baarle-Nassau. In the first quarter, a total of 879 fines were issued in both directions.

All together, 203,759 prints were distributed in Brabant in the first quarter. The province not only scores high for traffic violations; Brabant also excels year after year in terms of traffic fatalities.
