While the World Cup gets underway in the Aztec Stadium in Mexico, the German fans will have to be patient and continue to puzzle over who national coach Julian Nagelsmann will send into the race at the DFB opener on Sunday. If Jürgen Klopp and Thomas Müller have their way, an FC Bayern star will be sitting on the bench for the time being.
The duo stood in front of the camera together with presenter Johannes B. Kerner for “Magenta TV” at the opening game between Mexico and South Africa and together decided on a starting eleven for the German team.
On the offensive, the “TV national coaches” came up with a big surprise. In the end, the decision was made for Florian Wirtz, Dennis Undav and Leroy Sane to play behind Kai Havertz for the DFB team’s game against Curacao.
That also means: Bayern star Jamal Musiala would initially be on the bench in this scenario. At the start, the duo sees him as a joker who will cause a stir when the opponent runs out of strength. After his serious fibula injury last season, Musiala rarely played the full distance.
Kudos to Undav
Meanwhile, substitute Deniz Undav is in impressive form, which did not go unnoticed by Müller and Klopp.
“If everyone is fit, I see Undav as an excellent option. He just has a nose. I have zeroed in on this Undav idea,” said Müller and Klopp added: “We brought Undav into the game because he can play on the 10.”
The duo Felix Nmecha and Aleksandar Pavlovic start in central midfield. Joshua Kimmich, Jonathan Tah and Nico Schlotterbeck should play in the back four in front of goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, while a decision could not really be made in the duel between David Raum and Nathaniel Brown.
