A leather bag, which could be developed from cells of a Tyrannosaurus Rex, will go under the hammer in Paris at 6 p.m. This was announced by auction house Drouot. The value of the special handbag is estimated between 300,000 and 500,000 euros.

The dinosaur leather handbag was already presented in Amsterdam earlier this year. The object is constructed from remains of the protein collagen, which were found 25 years ago in the femur of a T. rex in Montana, America.
“It comes from an animal that became extinct 67 million years ago. However, in recent years we have managed to develop certain techniques and biotechnologies that allow cell culture to grow ‘real T. rex skin’ in a laboratory,” says paleontologist Iacopo Briano.
“100 percent skin”
The man himself is also involved in the auction. “It involves cell culture, so it is 100 percent skin,” he emphasizes.
In a statement, Drouot speaks of a “never before seen object” in the history of luxury goods. The auction house also emphasizes that the technology used makes it possible to produce leather “without resorting to animal husbandry”.
