In January a fan spent a record amount but a few days after the start the resale market was turned upside down: thousands of coupons are still looking for a buyer

Don’t be surprised or indignant because everyone does what they want with their own money. Mandatory introduction. Now the news: last January, at the peak of demand and with a ticket resale market that didn’t have a great offer for certain matches, a VIP ticket to watch Spain-Uruguay which will be played in Guadalajara on 27 June was resold for 17,199 euros. A figure clearly beyond any logic which represents a record at world level, also for the history of the World Cup. Since then, however, the trend has reversed and now there are many people trying to sell tickets on the online secondary market. And, unfortunately for them, there are no other fans ready to make “crazy” offers like that of the fan who will see the match between La Roja and Celeste after paying 17,199 euros. Yes, you read that right. Why? Because that’s Spain’s only match scheduled outside the United States. The most attractive, always outside the borders of the States, of a big European company.

TREND

For SeatPick, a platform specialized in comparing the prices of tickets put up for sale by users, the ticket market for the World Cup is experiencing a decline. Because evidently there are many who hoped to resell stadium entry tickets under the given date and do a great job. A much greater offer compared to previous months has also led to prices falling and the sum spent for Spain-Uruguay last January by a fan, it must be said, not very aware at this point, is not even destined to be approached. Indeed, the lower demand in recent weeks has led to a sharp contraction in resale prices. In its study, SeatPick documents that the average asking price has fallen by 65% since September 2025, i.e. it has gone from 3,882 euros to 1,362 euros. Why? Because bidding on the secondary market by those trying to place purchased coupons has increased 56 times. A lot of tickets to resell with the price of each one having gone down. In the SeatPick study, in the last 9 months it is estimated that the coupons put back on sale have gone from 16,000 to 886,000. And prices have dropped a lot.

HIGH PRICES

Currently, a few hours before the start of the group stage, the Guadalajara venue is not the most expensive and the highest requests have become those for tickets for the match between Colombia and Portugal which will be played in Miami (minimum price of 1,497 euros and an average of 3,247 euros per ticket). In Mexico, however, there are other matches where those who hold the precious tickets hope for the deal of a lifetime. For Spain-Uruguay the minimum price required for entry is now 650 euros. The average asking price is 1,766 euros. Even those who have secured tickets to see the hosts from Mexico want to get golden deals: for Mexico-South Africa the average asking price is 4,179 euros (the match will be staged in Mexico City), while for Mexico-South Korea the figure drops to 2,734 euros. Czech Republic-Mexico? Average resale price asked 2,547 euros.

LOW COST

At the same time, however, there are also decidedly less cartel challenges for which tickets have “normal” or almost “normal” asking prices. Examples? For Saudi Arabia-Cape Verde in Houston the lowest price is 86 euros (the average is 225): it is the cheapest match on SeatPick. At the moment, Austria-Jordan in San Francisco follows with the cheapest ticket at 101 euros and the “average” one at 301.

NATIONALS

The offer of coupons is greater for the European national teams because many have purchased them hoping to get a bargain, while the Mexicans want to be present at their national team’s matches at all costs and put few of them up for sale (at high prices: the average price is 3,500 euros). Among the Europeans, in recent weeks France has recorded around 30,000 tickets for its three group matches available on the secondary market, 22,700 for Germany’s three matches, 23,700 for Spain. Many are also trying to do business with Argentina and Brazil: over 33,000 tickets on the secondary market to see Messi and his teammates, 22,000 for Brazil. The latter have an average asking price of almost 1,900 euros each. The record ticket for a semi-final so far on SeatPick was paid for 7,645 euros; that for the final 13,941 euros.
