Two men who posed as fake police officers in Meppel have been caught red-handed. The police tracked them down through a tip from an alert Meppel resident.
The two suspects are a 19-year-old man from Ede and a 21-year-old man from Arnhem. Later, a third suspect was also arrested, an underage boy from Apeldoorn. All three were interviewed by the police and released, but remain suspects in the investigation.
A Meppel resident contacted the police because he did not trust that two ‘officers’ were on his doorstep. After the police were called, the first two suspects were immediately arrested.
In recent years, more and more fake agents have been active in Drenthe. For example, last month two people were arrested who posed as police officers on the telephone and convinced victims to hand over valuables. Last year, a resident of Vries became a victim of this type of fraudster.
