Belgium has 576,643 long-term sick people. A staggering figure, but the reality is even worse. A gigantic group is missing from those statistics: the half a million permanent civil servants in our country. Not a single long-term ill teacher, police officer or train conductor is included in that official figure. HLN therefore pulled all kinds of strings to uncover that one missing figure: how many permanent civil servants have been ill for more than one year? The absurd conclusion: even the government itself doesn’t know.
