Cabinet is forcing municipalities to carry out stricter checks on social assistance recipients: without language proficiency, there will be a cut in benefits

Municipalities are receiving a firm warning from the cabinet. They must check more closely whether social assistance recipients can speak Dutch well enough and give them lower benefits if that is not the case. Otherwise they will be called to account and, in extreme cases, there will be financial consequences for the local government.
