One photo was enough to spark controversy. Joseph Alperovichthe former governor of Tucumán sentenced to 16 years in prison for repeated sexual abuse with carnal access against his niece and former advisorwas photographed walking through the streets of Buenos Aires with his wife, the former winner of Big Brother and influencer Marianela Mirra. The image was spread by the Instagram account @gossipame and generated a wave of reactions: how could someone under house arrest be on the street?

The response came quickly from judicial sources: the departure was duly authorized by the court in charge of the execution of the sentence and responded to a outpatient medical check-up. The transfer had permanent police guard throughout the journey, in strict compliance with the protocol that governs this type of exceptions within the home regime.

Alperovich agreed to house arrest in July 2025by order of Judge Juan María Ramos Padilla, under a series of severe conditions: mandatory use of electronic anklet with 24-hour monitoring, the deposit of a real surety of 400 million pesosabsolute prohibition of contact—direct, indirect or virtual—with the victim and her environment, and prohibition to make public statements that could allude to or discredit the complainant.

The medical check-up that led to this Monday’s departure has a direct antecedent: in December 2025just days after marrying Mirra in a ceremony in Puerto Madero, the former official had to be hospitalized urgently for an acute gastrointestinal crisis that led to a surgical intervention. Those close to the former Peronist leader reported at that time that the evolution was favorable, although the episode revealed his delicate state of health.

The couple’s public appearance also renewed focus on the bond between Alperovich and Mirra. Their marriage at the end of 2025 exposed a fracture in the former president’s family environment: during the postoperative period, the former governor’s children kept their distance from the new spouse, evidencing tensions that add to the complex judicial present of the once strong man of Tucumán politics.
