The fathers of football players such as Paolo Maldini, Diego Forlan, Xabi Alonso, Youri Djorkaeff, Pepe Reina, Kasper Schmeichel and Thiago Alcantara also played for their countries in the World Cup.

A FAMILY WORLD CUP ADVENTURE

Javier Hernandez, as the third generation representative of his family, played for the Mexican National Team at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Hernandez got the chance to compete in the World Cup 24 years after his father and 56 years after his grandfather.

Hernandez’s grandfather Tomas Balcazar, who played for the Mexican National Team in Brazil 2014 and Russia 2018, played for the national team in the 1954 World Cup, and his father Javier Hernandez Gutierrez played for the national team in the 1986 World Cup.
