Charles Leclerc is currently third in the World Cup standings. It is now clear what will happen next for him after the season.
Shortly before his home race in Monaco, Charles Leclerc extended his contract with Scuderia Ferrari. The traditional Italian racing team left it open how long the new working paper would last – it only spoke of “coming seasons”.
“He is here to stay,” the team wrote. Leclerc has been driving for Ferrari since 2019 and is in third place in the World Championship standings. He is behind Mercedes drivers Kimi Antonelli and George Russell, but ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton. The 28-year-old entered Formula 1 in 2018. He contested his first Ferrari season alongside Sebastian Vettel.
Lecler makes a big announcement
Commenting on his extension, Leclerc said: “I couldn’t be happier to continue this journey with Scuderia Ferrari. It is the team I have loved since childhood and dreamed of being part of, and after all these years it has become a second family.” He formulated his goal as follows: “To bring the World Championship back to Maranello.”
Hamilton’s contract will reportedly run until the end of 2027. The 41-year-old seven-time world champion should also have an option for another season. The last driver world champion in a Ferrari was Kimi Räikkönen. Next year will be the 20th anniversary of this triumph.
