Alexander Zverev wins his first Grand Slam title at the French Open. The prestigious success in Paris is also financially worthwhile.

At the French Open, Alexander Zverev has overcome his final trauma. Before him, no male tennis player from Germany had triumphed here since the beginning of the professional era in 1968. Zverev also withstood the great title pressure in the final showdown and became the first German man since Boris Becker to win a Grand Slam title at the Australian Open 30 years ago. Zverev needed 41 attempts to win one of the four most important tournaments; he failed three times, sometimes dramatically, in the final – but not this time.

In addition to fame and points for the world rankings, the prize money at Roland Garros is also enormous. In the 125th edition of the tournament, more money is at stake than ever before. A total of 61.7 million euros will be distributed at the tournament. Even players who were eliminated in the first round can still look forward to high earnings.

As the winner, Zverev will receive 2.8 million euros. He had already received 1.4 million euros for reaching the final and the fact that he made it to the semi-finals also earned him an additional 750,000 euros.

But all the athletes who had already been eliminated could also be happy: an early exit from the tournament brings in considerable prize money in Paris. For reaching the third round, the professionals receive 187,000 euros, in round two it is 130,000 euros.

Even those who are eliminated right at the start will not leave empty-handed. For participation in the main field, 87,000 euros will be paid out.

At the French Open, men and women receive identical prize money. With its high winnings, Roland Garros, like the other Grand Slam tournaments, is one of the most prestigious and lucrative events in the tennis calendar.
