Volendam had won the first match 28-26. As a result, Aalsmeer had to win at home by at least three goals to take the title.

For a long time that seemed to work. Just before the end, Aalsmeer led 28-25 and the national title seemed within reach. But in the final seconds Volendam still made it 28-26. This led to a decisive penalty shootout.

Season ended with two prizes

In that series, Aalsmeer missed two penalties, while Volendam failed only once. As a result, Volendam came out on top and the championship celebration could begin.

For the team from the fishing village it is the first national title since 2013 and the eighth in club history. Earlier this season, Volendam also won the Supercup. The handball players thus end the season with two prizes.
