Lucas is a cheerful 24-year-old boy with Down syndrome. During the week he works as a waiter at Brownies & downieS and in his free time, sport is very important. He regularly goes to his favorite club AZ.

And in the winter months he can often be found at the skating rink. “Skating gives me a feeling of freedom,” says Lucas. And he can do it very well. Last year he became Dutch champion in G-skating on his clap skates.

Lucas shows the cup and his gold medal. “I’m very proud of it, but I actually think silver is more beautiful than gold,” he says with a broad smile on his face. A newspaper article hanging on the wall states that Lucas initially started skating a bit grumpily, but eventually became champion. His mother Doort agrees. “Lucas is sometimes a bit difficult to get started, but then he really throws himself into it,” she says.
