At the Parma Festival, the former coach talks about his lifelong friend: “I lost a point of reference, we had a unique relationship”
“When you have a friend like that, the moment you lose him, something happens because you lose a point of reference. We were like brothers, it’s like losing a brother.” These are the affectionate words that Roberto Mancini, guest at the Parma Sports Festival, used to remember his lifelong partner: Gianluca Vialli. During the interview, the former national coach then became emotional when talking about the hug after the European Championship victory: “We were at Wembley, 30 years after the defeat against Sampdoria. Being there and knowing what we managed to do, aware of what could have happened afterwards… Everything was there in that hug. Gianluca’s speech before the final was extraordinary and his presence was fundamental for all the players and the whole environment.”
