World Championship leader Kimi Antonelli has taken first place on the grid for the Formula 1 race in Monaco.
The 19-year-old Mercedes driver left Red Bull superstar Max Verstappen behind in an exciting qualification on the Monte Carlo street circuit, while Lewis Hamilton came third in a Ferrari. Nico Hülkenberg finished 13th in his Audi in his adopted hometown and has to fear another weekend without points.
Chasing a starting position is even more important in Monaco than in other races because overtaking is almost impossible in the principality’s narrow streets. Before the sixth round of the season on Sunday (3 p.m./RTL and Sky), Antonelli is at the top of the World Championship standings, 43 points ahead of his teammate George Russell. The Italian recently won four times in a row.
