Presenter Bart Schols leaves the Flemish channel VRT after 25 years. The broadcaster announced this on Saturday. He also stops presenting the talk show The Appointment. Schols started his career as a sports journalist and was one of the well-known faces of the VRT.

In the fragment, Schols and El Ahmadi spoke about the insecurity of women on the street. The presenter was criticized because he stated during the conversation that he also knows women who do not feel unsafe, which many viewers experienced as insensitive.

Afterwards he apologized to El Ahmadi and acknowledged that he should have handled the conversation differently. Schols indicated that he had not prepared sufficiently for how sensitive the subject was for El Ahmadi.

Troubled season

It was a turbulent season anyway The Appointment. The talk show was significantly renovated, with a new decor, an audience in the studio and a second presenter. We also focused on topics that would be better suited to a younger audience. With little result: many regular viewers dropped out and viewing figures dropped significantly.

Schols presents for the last time on Wednesday The Appointment. This puts an end to his career of almost 25 years at the public broadcaster. He presented the interpretation program for about 11 years.
