Together with Rodriguez, Giulia wins the derby with Orsi (paired with Laguno) and becomes the first Italian to achieve this goal in a Major tournament on the circuit
Predestined is perhaps not the right adjective: it puts too much pressure on us, it risks turning into a boomerang. But certainly Giulia Dal Pozzo’s exploit at the Foro Italico – the first Italian to qualify for the quarter-finals of a Major on the Premier Padel circuit – does not come as a bolt from the blue. In fact, we are talking about a player who only three years ago won the Fip Promises in Rome in the women’s Under 18 category: it was reasonable to expect constant growth among the “pros”, and so it was. Giulia is the news of the day at the Forum: paired with Nuria Rodriguez, from today she has the honor of being the first Italian to reach the quarter-finals in a Major.

To succeed in the feat, Giulia had to overcome her national teammate Carolina Orsi, accompanied on the pitch by a veteran of great caliber like Patty Laguno. Almost three hours of battle against Pietrangeli to reach the 6-4 0-6 7-6 with which the match ended. And with this result, the 21-year-old from Romagna is approaching position number 40 in the FIP ranking. The next opponents are Fernandez-Araujo, seeded number 4. For the rest, no problem for the favorite pairs: Josemaria-Gonzalez, Brea-Triay and Ustero-Sanchez ahead.

However, the “Chingalan”, the hottest couple of the moment in the men’s field, had some difficulties, coming off a string of won tournaments. Barahona and Alfonso, an explosive and very fearsome couple especially in outdoor tournaments, took care of scaring Federico Chingotto and Ale Galan: in the end, 6-4 in the third for the number 2s on the scoreboard and danger averted. Everything was simple, however, for Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, who conceded only two games (6-1 6-1) to Gala and Jensen Sirvent, the last Italian to leave the scene among the men. The surprise on Thursday is the elimination of the number 3 seeds: Mike Yanguas and Franco Stupaczuk, in the evening, surrendered 6-4 7-6 to Gonzalez-Bergamini, a “pareja” however of a high level.
