Alba Berlin had a more than unfortunate day in the third semi-final game and deservedly lost in Bamberg. The capital city team was too prone to errors both defensively and offensively, and after two previous wins they suffered a 73:81 defeat.
The Bamberg Baskets shortened the semi-finals of the Basketball Bundesliga and Alba Berlin thwarted the early finals. The Berliners lost the third game of the series 73:81 (30:39).
This means they only lead 2-1 in the best-of-five series, but have match point again in the fourth game on Saturday. In front of 5,700 spectators in the Brose Arena, Cobe Williams was the best scorer with 20 points, while Alba’s Norris Agbakoko and Justin Bean had 14 points each.
Both teams started off quite nervous and made a few mistakes. And so a narrow lead changed back and forth. In contrast to the first two games, Alba did not immediately find the throwing rhythm. Hardly a throw would fall, especially from a distance. Bamberg then got into the game better with the crowd cheering them on. The throws fell for the Franks.
Alba fights, but doesn’t get closer than five points
And so Bamberg was slowly able to pull away at the start of the second quarter. Alba made too many mistakes, lost too many balls and missed too many shots. And the hosts now got going. In the middle of the second period the lead reached double digits for the first time (32:22).
It stayed that way even after the break. Bamberg dominated the game and pulled ahead by 17 points in the third quarter (58:41). At Alba, too many players remained offensively pale. However, they improved their defense and came within five points in the final section (64:69). But the hosts always had an answer.
