How long will Valtteri Bottas continue to sit in a “premier class” cockpit? Before the Monaco Grand Prix, the Cadillac driver commented unequivocally on current rumors about his future.

The Finn Valtteri Bottas has clearly denied rumors that he is about to leave the Formula 1 newcomer Cadillac. “It’s not the first time that I’ve been confronted with such rumors. It’s a shame that someone can just make up complete nonsense, but that’s normal in this sport,” said the veteran in the run-up to the Monaco Grand Prix.

Cadillac hasn’t scored a point in the first five races. Neither Bottas nor his teammate Sergio Perez have been convincing so far, but the Mexican was usually a little faster. “I know my situation, the team knows my situation,” said Bottas: “They support me 100 percent.”

“Don’t bother me anymore”

After the race in Montreal, various media outlets speculated that the 36-year-old could lose his cockpit after Monaco. The Finn believes that “headlines and clicks” are behind these reports. He first read the rumors over his morning coffee and laughed about them; he learned over the course of his career that this was part of reporting in Formula 1. “Now it doesn’t bother me anymore,” he said.

His goal for qualifying on Saturday (4 p.m.) is to achieve the best possible starting position. Anything could happen in the race on Sunday (3 p.m., both in the live ticker on t-online).

Bottas has been driving in Formula 1 since 2013 and had his most successful time as a teammate of Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes (2017 to 2021). In 251 Grand Prix so far he has achieved 10 victories and 57 further podium finishes.
