Discussions in the search for a new trainer are in full swing at FC Volendam. Technical director Patrick Busby expects to be able to provide clarity about Rick Kruys’ successor after the weekend. He left the fishing village after the relegation from the Premier League.

Technical director Busby does not want to comment on names for the new trainer position at this time. He does confirm that he has not worked with the newcomer before.

Possible successors

Former player Tim Bakens could be an option as the new head coach. He left as an assistant at PEC Zwolle earlier this week and has been in possession of Voetbalcoach 5 (the highest coaching diploma ed.) since June 2024. De Groesbeker previously worked at Almere City as an assistant coach (also four matches as an interim trainer) and Helmond Sport as an assistant trainer (also six matches as an interim trainer). Bakens played in the fishing village in the 2008/09 season and the second half of 2009/10.

Someone who is also free at the moment is Ulrich Landvreugd. The Amsterdammer previously worked at AFC, Telstar and most recently at FC Den Bosch. Landvreugd reached the play-offs two seasons in a row with the people of Den Bosch. In the first year, his old club Telstar eliminated him in the semi-finals and in recent years the first round was already the end point.

Danny Schenkel is also clubless at the moment. The former player of Telstar, among others, was assistant to Jeroen Rijsdijk at Almere City and recently obtained Voetbalcoach 5. He left the club from Flevoland in the wake of Rijsdijk. He had already worked for the women of Ajax for three years in the past.

Old acquaintances Busby

Ivar van Dinteren does not seem to be coming to Volendam. De Bussummer worked with Busby at Twente in the past and therefore appears not to be a candidate. Van Dinteren previously worked at the Tukkers as an assistant trainer and as a trainer at Jong FC Utrecht. Joseph Oosting, another old acquaintance of Busby van Twente, is well on his way to Go Ahead Eagles and doesn’t seem to be coming either.

No Pastor or Smith

In any case, it is clear that Alex Pastoor will not be the new trainer. The former FC midfielder is not interested in the job. “To end my career, Volendam would be a blast, but I have already done a similar challenge. I am still too ambitious for that,” he previously responded at the NH Radio SportcafĂ©. Berry Smit has also already indicated that he does not want to become the new trainer. He does not have the correct papers and wants to stay with Purmersteijn.
