FC Bayern is being linked to numerous players in the rumor mill these days. At FC Barcelona they hope that one of these deals actually goes through, because that would bring the Spanish champions millions in revenue.
Can FC Barcelona look forward to a few extra millions this summer without lifting a finger? FC Bayern, of all places, could make this possible.
The German record champions have been linked with a commitment from Eindhoven defender Sergino Dest since this week. Should the 25-year-old move to Säbener Straße, the cash register would ring at FC Barcelona.
Barca hopes for Bayern transfer
The reason: Barca had secured a resale share in the Dest transfer to Eindhoven. The Spaniards let the player move to the Netherlands on a free transfer in the summer of 2024 despite an existing contract in order to get him off the payroll. Instead of the transfer fee, the clause was built into the contract.
This clause could pay off two years later. According to Spanish media, Barca would receive an impressive 20 percent of the transfer fee. What this ultimately means in Dest’s case can only be speculated. Even with a transfer fee of “only” 20 million euros, the Catalans should be happy with at least four million.
Whether Dest will end up in Munich this summer is still up in the air. There shouldn’t be anything more than loose interest yet. There has been no mention of discussions or even an initial offer in the reports so far.
Dest comes from Ajax Amsterdam’s youth ranks. In October 2020, the defender moved on to FC Barcelona. After a loan to AC Milan, he moved to PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2023, initially on loan and then on a permanent basis. Last season, the US international contributed two goals and eight assists in 38 appearances. His contract with PSV runs until the summer of 2028.
