Violet Grohl was a guest on The Tonight Show to perform her song “Bug in the Cake.” The musician – Daughter of Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl – presented the driving, grungy track along with her live band.

“Bug in the Cake” is taken from Grohl’s debut album “Be Sweet to Me,” which was released on May 29th via Auroura Records/Republic Records. The album was recorded in producer Justin Raisen’s home studio in Los Angeles from late 2024 to early 2025 – with musicians assembled in the spirit of the Wrecking Crew session players of the ’60s and ’70s.

When the album was announced, Grohl explained that she took inspiration from the alternative music of the late ’80s and early ’90s – including Pixies, Soundgarden, Cocteau Twins and the Breeders. “There is something incredibly powerful about this era of music, from the messages to the aesthetics – it is authentic and raw,” she said in a statement. “I’ve been listening to this stuff since I was a kid.”

Grohl and the Foo Fighters

Grohl, the Foo Fighters frontman’s eldest daughter, has been making music for several years. In 2021, she released a cover version of X’s “Nausea” recorded with her father, which the duo later performed live on “Jimmy Kimmel” – accompanied by Krist Novoselic, Dave Lombardo and Greg Kurstin.

She has also appeared on stage with the Foo Fighters several times, including at the tribute concerts for the late drummer Taylor Hawkins in 2022. In 2023 she sang “Show Me How” with her father.

In a recent interview, Grohl said she knows the world sees her as a Nepo Baby – but that leaves her cold. “Of course doors are open to me because of my last name,” the 19-year-old singer and songwriter told The Forty-Five. “I will never hide or deny that and say, ‘No, I worked so hard for this! You shouldn’t say that! It hurts my feelings.'”

Nepo baby? Doesn’t matter.

“I don’t care, really,” she added. “I’ve been hearing that since I was 13. So call me Nepo Baby for my sake. I don’t give a damn. I just hope people give me a chance at some point.”
