Earlier this week, the police arrested a 55-year-old man from Meppel on suspicion of fraud. The man is said to have defrauded a telecom and media provider.
According to the police, it is not the first time that the man was caught in the spotlight. De Meppeler placed around three hundred orders with Ziggo between 2016 and 2020.
According to the police at the time, the damage was around 60,000 euros. At the end of 2020, he was sentenced to ten months in prison.
In 2024, the man was arrested again for false reports. He took out subscriptions for months using false names and account numbers. He received so-called WiFi boosters that he then sold via the internet.
At the time, this involved 174 orders with damage of approximately 14,000 euros. De Meppeler was sentenced to eight months in prison in September 2024, two months of which were conditional.
The man is in custody and is being interrogated.
