Even before kick-off in Lemgo, SC DHfK Leipzig only had a theoretical chance of staying in the Bundesliga – but since Wednesday evening, the Green-Whites’ relegation after eleven years in the first division has now been finally determined.

The handball players of SC DHfK Leipzig have to make the bitter transition to the second division. Coach Frank Carstens’ team lost 28:30 (17:18) in its last Bundesliga away game at TBV Lemgo Lippe on Wednesday evening, which meant that the minimal chance of staying in the league was finally extinguished. Franz Semper and Blaer Hinriksson were the best throwers for the courageous bottom team with five goals each.

DHfK starts furiously – but Lemgo is too strong

The Leipzig team started the game furiously and initially impressed with their wit and merciless efficiency in the end. After 14 minutes they led 14:11 in an open exchange of blows. The Lemgoers then initiated the turnaround with a goalkeeper swap. The guests now despaired of Constantin Möstl and fell behind by the break.

Lukas Binder, captain of SC DHfK Leipzig, immediately looked forward in the SpiO interview after the Bundesliga relegation in Lemgo. The goal is clear: the Green-Whites want direct promotion.

However, the Leipzig team did not allow themselves to be discouraged and, thanks to improved defensive work, forced a duel on equal terms with the favorites in the second half. Only in the final phase did Lemgo pull ahead with a 5:2 run to make it 29:26 (55th minute). Leipzig will say goodbye to the Bundesliga next Sunday with a home game against GWD Minden. The penultimate Minden finally sealed Leipzig’s move into the 2nd league on Wednesday evening with a sensational 34:30 victory over record champions Kiel.
