The details about the accident of Leontine Ruiters and Jada Borsato in Ibiza are slowly trickling out. It is now clear: Leontine was wearing a seat belt, Jada was not. And that makes a difference.
A drunken Englishman who forgot that he drives differently on the continent than at home, a roundabout in San Antonio and a head-on collision with the taxi in which Leontine and Jada were traveling. That is, in short, what happened on the Spanish island just over a week ago, although it takes a while before all the details come out and that is striking.
A life of its own
Leontine herself posted a statement on Instagram ‘to prevent the story from taking on a life of its own’, but it is now doing so anyway, because, according to Private Boss Evert Santegoeds, anyone who remains so vague is feeding exactly the speculation he or she wants to avoid. But maybe that’s just the intention.
It seems that Jada and Leontine don’t mind all that attention. Despite the circumstances, Jada still found a moment for a carefully filtered selfie from the hospital bed. The requests for peace and privacy are therefore accompanied by Instagram posts, hospital photos and a media statement.
Lots of accidents
Evert finds it all vague. “If you want to prevent it from taking on a life of its own, just be clear for once. It is one big unclear story. What exactly happened, no one says anything about it,” he says in the podcast Strictly Private.
What we do know? “An Englishman arrived and he had forgotten that he was on the mainland. He was drunk. San Antonio is one large British enclave and a lot of accidents happen on the road from Ibiza Town to San Antonio. This also happened there. So at the roundabout the man forgot that he has to drive on the right, so he went left.”
No seat belt
That Englishman drove into that roundabout and there he found the taxi with Leontine and Jada. “I understand that Leontine was properly wearing a seat belt, not everyone does that in a taxi, but she was wearing that seat belt and that is why she now has bruised ribs. Jada did not have that and she seems to have some injuries to her face.”
How bad is it? Her Insta filters don’t reveal that. But: “We can see that next Saturday, if all goes well, when she will perform in Hoorn during a large street party where she has been announced. It has not been canceled yet, so in the end it seems to be going in the right direction, but what exactly happened? It’s better to just tell us once.”
