Leonor’s primacy: the heir to the throne surpasses King Felipe and Juan Carlos

By obtaining the diploma and the prestigious badge of Cazador Paracaidistatwenty-year-old Leonor draws a line of clear discontinuity with the crown’s past. Nor his father, the King Felipe VInor his grandfather Juan Carlos Ihad in fact never undertaken or completed this specific and risky training during their respective years of military service. This passage underlines the desire of the young Bourbon not to be a purely decorative figure, but to earn in the fieldwith sweat and determination, respect for the military bodies of which one day he will be, by Constitution, the Supreme Commander.

Dad Felipe’s pride: «A journey undertaken with brilliance»

The military leaders themselves and King Felipe VI himself confirmed the excellent attitude of the heir to the throne. During his recent Armed Forces Day speech, the sovereign did not hide a thing deep emotion when commenting on his daughter’s successes: «He passed this training cycle with a lot of effort and brilliance. As a father it’s not up to me to say it; as supreme commander of the Armed Forces, we’ll see. In any case, congratulations Leonor.” Words that certify how the princess is completing a journey that lasted three years and has seen her first engaged in the Land Army in Zaragozathen in the Navy in Marín, and finally in the skies of Spain.

Leonor of Spain, from the academy to the university desks

What makes the profile of this young queen of the twenty-first century truly extraordinary is hers ability to double with extreme naturalness. Willing to get her hands dirty in the trenches or risk her life in the skies of Murcia, Leonor is already ready to take off her standard camouflage and parachutist helmet. Once the military period ends on July 10th, the autumn of 2026 will mark for her the return to a civilian dimension and distinctly international. In fact, it will begin in September his university studies in Political Science at the Getafe campus of the Carlos III University of Madrid, demonstrating how modern kingship requires both the steadfastness of the military leader and the profound strategic preparation of a stateswoman.
