The 35-year-old motorist who was involved in a fatal accident with a cyclist on Tuesday afternoon is from Geertruidenberg and is suspected of driving under the influence of narcotics.
A police spokesperson said this on Wednesday afternoon. According to the spokesperson, a saliva test was taken and a blood test should provide a definitive answer.
Cyclist (25) died
The police are still investigating how the accident on the Tuinbouwweg in Made could happen. A 25-year-old cyclist from Baarle-Nassau died.
Several emergency services arrived on the scene. An air ambulance was also called and landed near the accident, but assistance was of no avail to the victim.
More often gone wrong
It is not the first time that something has gone wrong in that street. In April, a cyclist died when she was hit by a car.
In 2022, a 14-year-old girl was seriously injured after being hit by a car.
Municipality: no measures yet
The municipality of Drimmelen says it is ‘deeply affected’ by the accident. According to the municipality, the situation at the road is ‘vulnerable’, but it is not taking any measures for the time being.
