The Vegas Golden Knights presented in the Stanley Cup final and laid the foundation for the second title in the young franchise’s history. At the start of the final series in the NHL, the Knights won 5-4 against the Carolina Hurricanes.

The match winner in Raleigh/North Carolina was Czech Tomas Hertl, who scored the winning goal 3:24 minutes before the end of the final third. Brayden McNabb and Shea Theodore each contributed three points. Nikolaj Ehlers scored twice for the Canes, who suffered only their second defeat of the current playoffs.

“Of course we didn’t have a great start, but that’s kind of been the case all season – we never give up.”said Hertl, looking at the early Ehlers double pack: “As a team, it doesn’t matter if we’re ahead or behind. We just keep playing.”

Vegas was already champion in 2023

Carolina, which finished the main round as the best team in the East, will also enjoy home advantage in the second game on Friday night. The goal remains the first Stanley Cup since 2006. For the Vegas Golden Knights it is the third Stanley Cup final in the ninth year of their existence. In 2023, the franchise from the US state of Nevada secured the trophy.

The Stanley Cup winner will be known by June 17th at the latest, because then one of the teams in the “best-of-seven series” will have achieved the fourth victory they need to win the title.
