After the Tour de France, Italy will no longer have team managers in the World Tour: the last one was Luca Guercilena, head of Milan and Ciccone’s Lidl-Trek, but just today the German team announced a profound change in the management structure and Guercilena will leave after 16 years. «The desire for new challenges has always been the driving force of my professional life» declared Luca Guercilena. «After 16 unforgettable years, I feel the time has come to hand over the baton and allow the team to face its next phase with new impulses and a new energy that will fuel the desire to continue pushing the limits. I turn the page knowing that I am leaving behind a solid organization made up of great professionals, a group of athletes capable of winning now and in the future, and a strong and determined ownership, committed to taking cycling to a higher level. The team gave me incredible emotions thanks to the athletes, the staff, the sponsors and the owners, from whom I always received great support, especially in difficult moments. Lidl-Trek will forever be the team closest to my heart.” The new CEO will be Andy Schleck; the head of the sports structure Grischa Niermann, arriving from Visma.
