Hannover 96 is strengthening with Jean Hugonet from second division rivals 1. FC Magdeburg. The Lower Saxony team will secure the 26-year-old central defender on a free transfer after his contract ends and will provide him with a working paper until 2030. Hugonet is the Reds’ number two newcomer.
The Frenchman is leaving the FCM after three years and 73 appearances. He has not appeared more often for any other club in his career. In Hanover he will meet coach Christian Titz again, under whom he has already played 48 times in Magdeburg. Hugonet was considered the coach’s preferred defender.
“I’m really looking forward to the new challenge at Hannover 96. The club has great ambitions and a clear idea of how football should be played. The fact that I already know the coach and his style of play will certainly help me at the start. I will bring in my qualities, like to take on responsibility and ultimately just want to be successful together with the team,” said Hugonet.
The new sports director Jonas Boldt added: “The transfer was well prepared and implemented with the player. I am pleased that we were able to win Jean Hugonet for us on a free transfer because he is a player who undeniably brings a very good overall package and has a quality that helps us and moves us forward.” With a market value of 1.2 million euros, Hugonet is one of the most valuable second division professionals with an expiring contract.
