During a brand new episode of our Telstar podcast De Verlenging, fan Adje Rem Sr. and outgoing goalkeeper coach Rick van der Mast join us. The duo looks back on the historic Premier League season one more time.
The podcast is – how could it be otherwise – about the enforcement of Telstar and the subsequent party in the stadium. It was suggested that a grandstand be named after him when coach Anthony Correia retired. In the eyes of Rem Sr., that goes too far. “If anyone deserves a stand, it is ‘Jomanda’. As a tribute, that might be better.”
“Anthony still has a very nice career ahead of him, so that will come later,” Van der Mast adds.

(Top) transfer Ronald Koeman Jr?
Ronald Koeman junior has developed strongly under the leadership of Van der Mast. “I think he can handle the Spanish top competition,” says the goalkeeper coach about the goalkeeper whose contract is expiring. “Why not? He just has to join a club that wants to play football.”
“I have the feeling that at Telstar the entire playing style is shaped around his way of goalkeeping,” says Rem Sr. “It fit together so well, so I don’t know whether Koeman will get the same opportunities to build up like this at another club.”

Back pain from microwave
Telstar still suffered from a microwave during the away match they won against PSV. The club wanted to try something new and opted for top sports meals. At that time, Van der Mast was not only a goalkeeper coach but also a team manager.
“They would provide a microwave so that we could heat it up just before the match. I assumed it was a small microwave. That was a beast, that thing. Physiotherapist Bob Koning still suffered from it in Ibiza.”
